I love Target, I really do…but fashionwise I don’t dig it. Target however, refuses to rest until they are foreseen as a fashion hipster. Follow this if you can. In an article in today’s Wall Street Journal, Target is planning a designer apparel fashion show…sans models.
Instead of using costly real models, the show will be staged using holograms. These two dimensional holograms will give the illusion of three as clothes and apparel sashay their way down the runway. 35 different looks form Target’s array of designers (Isaac Mizrahi to Hollywould) will be projected onto a portion of Grand Central Terminal in NYC on November 6 & 7 repeated every ten minutes from noon to midnight on the first day and 6am – 7pm the second. The video will also be viewable on YouTube, MySpace and their own site.
To quote Laura Sandall, Target’s marketing and events director, "our campaign is all about style for less, so this is a fashion show that is model-less." Get it (that’ so bad)? Well at least you know they won’t be sinking a lot of money top actually pay models. Could this be the wave of the future and the further death knell of the fashion model? Listen up "America’s Next Top Model," first is was celebrities stealing your thunder, now it’s technology.
