Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Spring ’13: Milly Plays With Neon Sportswear

Summary: I’ll admit, I was immediately distracted by Michelle Smith‘s color palette. A sucker for metallics and neons, her color pallete was a shade story that felt fresh, and, populated by graphic patterns, embraced a visual texture that heightened the collection’s sportswear motif. On their own, the separates are not terribly dynamic. Sweatshirts, hoodies, track pants, racerback tees: these are not design forays that will be breaking the boundaries of fashion. But, Smith’s personality is showcased in her mixing and matching of prints, colors, textures and shapes: stylish athleticism that is approachable, yet also slightly forward. A black leather mesh jacket stood out, paired with a citron jersey pullover and aquamarine side zippered ankle pants. As well as a blue and white graphchart print silk sleeved top and ruched skirt. For Milly, SS13 is about flow, ease and a smattering of neon accents. There’s a place for that, indeed.
