According to Bloomberg’s Linda Sandler Kate Moss a la Irving Penn will be auctioned off for an estimated $44,956 next month at Christie’s International. My hope is that this has more to do with the artistry of Irving Penn and less with the beauty of Kate Moss.

April 17 (Bloomberg) — Supermodel Kate Moss will star in a London photograph auction by Christie’s International next month, including a nude portrait by Irving Penn that’s expected to fetch as much as 22,000 pounds ($43,965).
Ten pictures of Moss by artists and photographers including Chuck Close and Albert Watson are for sale in five lots, with a total top estimate of 70,000 pounds, Christie’s said. Close made daguerreotype nude studies of Moss for W magazine in 2003. Six prints made afterward will be auctioned for the first time and may fetch 20,000 pounds. Penn’s platinum print was made in 1996.

Croydon, England-born Moss, 33, is about to launch a fashion line bearing her name. Artist Lucian Freud’s painting of her, naked and pregnant, sold for 3.9 million pounds in 2005. Tabloids track her romances as closely as those of Prince William.
Fashion photos are soaring in value at auctions and art fairs and have been adopted by museums, keen to attract a celebrity-hungry public. “Face of Fashion,” a photo exhibition at London’s National Portrait Gallery through May 28, has a picture of Moss in an advertising poster off Trafalgar Square.

At Christie’s May 31 sale, Watson’s nude image of Moss, measuring 96 inches by 72 inches, has a top estimate of 15,000 pounds. It was shot in 1993 for German Vogue. “Kate Taken in Croydon,” a never-published 1990 print by Corinne Day, who helped to make Moss famous with her portraits for the U.K. magazine, The Face, has a high value of 6,000 pounds. It is signed by Moss and Day, Christie’s said.
Day’s 1993 image, “Kate at Home,” showing the model in a pink singlet for Vogue, has a top value of 7,000 pounds, Christie’s said.
