Summary: Michael Kors is pretty much the quintessence when it comes to American fashion. So when the designer noted the theme of his fall '10 show would be "Quintessential American Sportswear", everyone at his high coveted runway show knew they were in for a treat. Kors had stated before the show that the focus would be on luxurious daywear, luxe pieces that could transcend the monotony of everyday yet still have enough comfort and ease to live in. Kors chose a palette of cold weather neutrals like camel, chocolate, gray and black, to use as his canvases for impeccable construction. Over-sized boyfriend blazers provided a protective coating over shirtdresses, deep v-neck blouses and wool shorts. Chunky and decadent fur showed up in everything from traditional overcoats to voluminous neckwraps, to a gorgeous pencil skirt. And everything was belted, sometimes two or three times over, an accessory that had not gotten very much attention on the runway until now.
Kors made use of his signature elements like squeaky clean lines and long, lean shapes. He did provide a bit of occasional volume in the length of a knit sweater dress, the drape of a cowlneck, or the shape of a mohair hood. But there was nothing that made the collection seem too fancy or fussy, and take away from Kors' vision of a natural ease and grace. Even his array of eveningwear that closed the show was full of simple, sometimes slouchy silhouettes that seemed to say, obtaining this level of style is not impossible. Rather, Kors succeeded in creating a collection
of looks so seemingly effortless and chic, that it gave us lucky viewers something to aspire to.
