Wow, what a year. The January of Fashion, September has once again come and gone. And with that, another season of must-have (and could probably pass-on) trends from New York Fashion Week emerge. Between classic organza and disco queens, we have a lot to cover. Let’s get started on Spring/Summer 2014 fashion trends!

Skirts are getting fuller for Spring ’13 – evoking a 50’s vibe.  It’s the perfect trend for women looking to hide their thighs or derriere.

Full Skirt: Diane Von Furstenberg, Zac Posen, Tracy Reese (pictured above); Ohne Titel, Alice + Olivia, 3.1 Phillip Lim, Dennis Basso, Honor, Jill Stuart, Cynthia Rowley, Oscar de la Renta, Donna Karan

Relax! Menswear gone loose is what we like to call this welcome and comfortable trend.

Slouchy Sleek: Alice + Olivia, Rachel Zoe, Jen Kao, Tibi, Proenza Schouler, AllSaints, Alexander Wang, 3.1 Phillip Lim, BCBG, Helmut Lang, Tracy Reese, Steven Alan

The 90’s are back! OK, maybe not, but pleats sure are! We saw them in both skirts and pants.

Pleats: Alice + Olivia, Alexander Wang, 3.1 Phillip Lim, Carmen Marc Valvo, Diane Von Furstenberg, Zimmermann, Zac Posen, Timo Weiland, Tracy Reese, Micheal Kors

The cut-out trend is nothing new, but is back for another season. So many designers still love a sliver of skin.

Cut-Outs: Jill Stuart, BCBG Max Azria, Cushnie et Ochs, Jeremy Laing, Son Jung Wan, Carmen Marc Valvo, Catherine Malandrino, Yigal Azrouel, Victoria Beckham, Timo Weiland, Christian Siriano

Laser cuts are not just for leather anymore! This trend shows up in all kinds of fabric for Spring.

Laser Cuts: J. Crew, Tory Burch, Oscar de la Renta, Alexander Wang, Carmen Marc Valvo, Jill Stuart, Victoria Beckham, Rebecca Taylor, Milly

If you thought you might have escaped the bare midriff trend from last summer, you still can’t let it all hang out. It’s back again for Spring 2013. The good news is that if you are over 35, you should skip this trend anyway.

Belly Baring (Midriff): Narciso Rodriguez, Diane von Furstenberg, Michael Kors, ICB, Alexander Wang, 3.1 Phillip Lim, BCBG, DKNY, Helmut Lang, Jill Stuart, Jennifer Chun, ADEAM, Jonathan Simkhai, Calla, Alexander Herchcovitch, Yigal Azrouel, Tracy Reese, Timo Weiland, Christian Siriano, Tibi, Rebecca Taylor, Milly, Peter Som

Sheer panels were seriously everywhere! Just look at the long list of designers who incorporated them. The look is sexy without being too exposing. Just make sure the panel is in an area you really want to expose. We loved it on skirts. Who can’t afford to show a hint of leg?

Sheer Panels: Vera Wang, 3.1 Phillip Lim, Band of Outsiders (pictured above); Ohne Titel, Alexander Wang, Altuzarra, Bibhu Mohapatra, Chadwick Bell, Theyskens’ Theory, Sachin + Babi, Carolina Herrera, Marchesa, Creatures of the Wind, BCBG, Carmen Marc Valvo, Lela Rose, ADEAM, Yigal Azrouel, Victoria Beckham, Tracy Reese, Timo Weiland, Tibi, Rebecca Taylor, Milly, Monique Lhuillier, Tadashi Shoji

Silky nightwear for eveningwear! This trend always comes back because it’s uber sexy.

Slipdress: Rodarte, Theyskens’ Theory, Jill Stuart, Narciso Rodriguez, Richard Chai Love, Jason Wu, Vera Wang, Zac Posen, Milly

You can usually count on the sheath dress to make an appearance in some form for Spring since it’s fairly universally flattering. Spring ’14 was no exception.

Sheath Dress: Ralph Lauren, Son Jung Wan, Yigal Azrouel, Calvin Klein, Alexander Wang

Exaggerated shoulders, sleeves and cuts are always welcome. A structured jacket ads an heir of sophistication to any look.

As long as Rachel Zoe is styling celebs you can pretty much count on Hippie Chic to find it’s way to our spring wardrobes.

When it comes to eveningwear there are always going to be women who want their lamé.

Pleats, folds and asymmetrical hemlines made the oragami effect one of our favorites.

Oragami: Chadwick Bell, BCBG, Helmut Lang, Lela Rose, Katya Leonovich, Vera Wang, Prabal Gurung, ICB

This stiff fabric is showing no signs of going anywhere. The Jetsons were on to something.

Lace = romance. Period.

Lace: Tadashi Shoji, Alice + Olivia, Honor, Lela Rose, Vivienne Tam, Tracy Reese, Oscar de la Renta, Rebecca Taylor, Monique Lhuillier, Naeem Kahn

Leather for warmer temperatures is just having it’s day. That day continues into Spring ’14.

Leather: Libertine, Milly, Peter Som, Yigal Azrouel, Micheal Kors, 3.1 Phillip Lim, Dennis Basso

Drop waist dresses look more updated today than they did in the 80’s. Thank God.

Menswear-inspired, crisp shirts were highlighted in countless shows, but don’t raid your husband’s closet. These were just for the ladies.

Have you got something to say? Well it seems a lot of designers do! Catchy sayings and self promotion were seen again.

Thinking Out Loud (Words): Hood By Air, Assembly, DKNY, Alexander Wang, Jeremy Scott, Marc Jacobs

Looking effortless isn’t always as easy as it would seem. Expert layering is they key. These designers are the pros.
