Altuzarra‘s SS16 collection has been added to my top five list of shows since New York Fashion Week kicked off last Thursday. The ready-to-wear designer sent saturated colors and playful yet powerful items down the runway that work for day and night. Warm weather leathers, tie-dye and military inspired styles all formed an incredibly cohesive and sexy collection, perfect for welcoming the warmer temperatures of the 2016 season.
The collection kept it sexy, flashing legs using high slits and showing some skin with deep v-necks. However, not to be too risque, midi length skirts were featured on a majority of the looks and deep v-neck details were paired strategically with longer skirts, wide-leg pants and fuller coverage sleeves. Almost all of the looks incorporated separates that would be perfect for everyday, but the rich colors would keep you from looking anything but ordinary.
The color story for this collection is what really set it apart with poppy oranges, camo-inspired greens and denim-like blues anchored by black and white and accompanied by some rich, brown crocodile leather pieces. Prints were mostly reserved to the tie-dyed pieces, but texture played a key role, with many of the garments featuring soft fabric finishes to give them added dimension as well as contrasting and intricate trims, toggles, belts and lace embroidery.
Each garment displayed a keen attention to detail, whether it be the color choice in saturated tie-dye fabrics of kelly green or royal blue, the soft creasing pleats of the airy linen dresses and skirts, or the military-style jackets featuring gold toggles with rope closures. The collection displayed every style the modern women wants to get her hands on from jumpsuits, jackets, skirts and day dresses, to full on power suits. Overall, the collection was incredibly wearable yet decadent, powerful yet feminine and in my opinion, will definitely give the upcoming shows a run for their money.
