NY Fashion Week Spring ’08. Miami Deco Meets 40’s Glamour. Movie and Stage Star Inspiration at Abaete. Second City Style Fashion Blog

Fountain of 30

September 6, 2007 • New York Fashion Week Spring '08

Summary: Nothing says glamor like Abaete when it comes to Spring Collections. This season, 40’s stage and screen actress Gene Tierney was the inspiration for designer Laura Poretzky’s collection. This beautiful collection of swimwear, which looked retro and covered up, was cut high in the back for modern sex appeal and made me want to book a cruise. The surprise of perforated leather in a classic dress added to a luxurious feel. The shoes, which I was surprised to find, were designed exclusively for Payless. The "Rita" (an open "spring boot" of sorts) particularly caught my eye adding a modern edginess to the classic styles. It’s "the bootie" of next season, and I saw variations of this at other shows. In fact all of the shoes in the collection answered the question "what would I wear with that?" Abaete has the perfect shoe to accompany the collection’s long casual to-the-floor dresses, short shorts, and high waisted wide leg pants.

Color Palette: "deco pink", "summer sky", "sunset coral", "canary yellow", "Palm Beach sand", navy, black and white.

Textures & Details:
ruched pleat details in silk crepe fabric, perforated kidskin leather, stretch linen and snakeskin. Black Deco trims and thin belts.

Key Looks: Classic cuts with long slits in the back, long dresses to the floor, dresses close to the body and belted. Flower appliques, black band accents, geometric deco trims, a large palm print which appears more modern and graphic than floral.
