The "Save Marshall Field’s" group will either be celebrating or really crying.

"The new owners could bring back the Field’s name at the store. They could also close the store and divide it up into smaller stores."

(CBS) CHICAGO Less than a year after the Macy’s name replaced the 150-year-old Marshall Field’s, the future of the State Street flagship store is again uncertain.

The old Marshall Field’s at 111 N. State St. was renamed Macy’s last September, along with the 60 other Field’s stores in the Chicago, Minneapolis and Detroit areas.

But now, reports have surfaced that the store’s parent company, formerly called Federated and now just called Macy’s, may be sold to private equity buyers over the weekend.
