Statement Skirts, Fall Fashion

Statement necklaces, statement earrings, and other forms of big and bold jewelry have been popular for quite a while. But sometimes you covet a look that makes a bigger impression, and that’s where a statement skirt comes into play. Pair a textured, patterned or otherwise interesting skirt with a simple top and you’ll have a memorable look that will stand the test of time. That said, there are plenty of statement skirts on the racks this season, but the concept of a simple look with one statement piece will never go out of style.

Feathers. Ostrich feathers or similar can be elegant. For instance, pair a skirt like this black Alice + Olivia number with a basic turtleneck or tee, tights, and menswear inspired shoes like brogues or oxfords for an unconventional but interesting look. Feminine jewelry like chandelier earrings, a couple big cocktail rings, or a stack of bracelets would be the perfect final touch.

Sequins. A little sparkle is always fun, and it doesn’t have to be limited to black tie events. A slinky and sparkly skirt can potentially work with a button down for day time, or the same ensemble can be fun for a casual night out – and much more interesting than the somewhat standard fancy top and jeans.

Prints. A bold print always makes a difference, especially when it is done in a maxi skirt like this one by Seven7. In fact, this kind of style is the perfect quick fashion fix if you want to update your winter basics – chances are that you already have a simple black tee, tights or leggings, and booties to pair with a memorable print maxi or midi skirt. Want to make a bigger impact? Add some sequins to the print. For instance, this Express skirt is a perfect way to try out the statement skirt trend.

Silhouettes. A striking shape doesn’t necessarily need any other embellishment to stand out. For example, there is nothing quite as fabulous as a leather skirt – and this Versace flared number is absolutely perfect. Pair it with with anything from a concert t-shirt to a fitted button down, and it will be amazing.

Don’t restrict your statement items to jewelry. Get creative with your skirts and look for outstanding designs. Also go with a contrast. A simple chambray, a basic tee or a neutral button down can go a long way towards toning down a bright print or crazy design.
