Who says Chicago doesn't come first, at least from time to time? The 900 North Michigan Shops will be the first U.S. home for the accessible luxury British fashion house L.K.Bennett London opening in early April, 2011.
I knew little about this London based fashion brand with customers including the Duchess of Cornwall, Kate Middleton and Kate Moss, so I was thrilled to get a sneak peak at the fall 2011 collection and to find out more about L.K.Bennett.
Founded in 1990 by Linda K Bennett, who trained as a cordwainer at the London College of Fashion and worked for designer Robert Clergerie, L.K.Bennett started as a shoe boutique. Her goal was to produce "something in-between the designer footwear you find in Bond Street and those on the high street.” L.K.Bennett rapidly became the ultimate destination for elegant footwear, handbags and accessories leading to their launch of women’s ready-to-wear and accessories collections in 1998. Parisian Creative Director Annick Gorman, who previously held creative posts at Celine and Cacharel, was appointed in December 2008 to direct a design philosophy centered around elegance, beautiful tailoring, style and refinement.
When the store opens in the next few weeks on level 3 at 900 N Michigan Avenue, it will be filled with spring fashions, that you can see now at LKBennet.com, but here is what to expect for fall. This line of well tailored, well priced, sophisticated (but still fun) ready-to-wear, with pretty (yet comfortable) shoes and beautiful (yet practical) handbags will surely make L.K.Bennett a welcome addition and a new go-to shop for Chicago women.
