Genny Is Revamping!
Remember how big Genny was in the 80s and 90s? The Italian brand has still been around but now it is branching out. It is extending its product offer with a new line of eyewear produced by Jet Set Group that will be shown the runway today at Milan Fashion Week while the owners are planning retail expansion both locally and internationally. A new website with an online store will live-stream the runway show.
“Genny has always represented Italian excellence, and we want to return luster to the brand,” said Mathias Facchini, chief executive officer of parent company Swinger International. “Genny’s credibility was never damaged, as the label was frozen for a few years.”
In the 80’s and 90’s, spearheaded by Donatella Girombelli, Genny attracted a following for its sharply tailored suits, ornate details and lively prints for working women. In 2001, the Prada Group bought Genny and its sister label, Byblos. Swinger International acquired Genny in February 2011, tapping designer Gabriele Colangelo to revamp the line.
Holiday Shopping Season is On
Summer just officially and the holiday shopping season is already underway for many consumers. According to the new Consumer Pulse survey from Rubicon Project which surveyed consumers ages 18 and above in the U.S., UK and Canada, nearly one-third of all shoppers have already begun their holiday shopping! 42% of parents have also already started.
Along with starting the shopping season earlier, many plan on spending more than last year, as well as doing most of their shopping online and on mobile devices. The survey found a large majority of consumers are planning on spending the same or more on holiday purchases this year, with most budgets exceeding $1,000. By starting earlier and taking advantage of shopping online and on mobile devices, consumers can save money.”
Giorgio Armani’s New Autobiography
Giorgio Armani’s new autobiography is being released during his company’s 40th anniversary year. Published by Rizzoli, the book, simply titled “Giorgio Armani” will be presented Sept. 28 at a press conference following the designer’s signature runway show and will be in stores the next day. Both published and well-known images by international photographers such as Craig McDean, Aldo Fallai and Peter Lindbergh are juxtaposed with revealing text written by Armani himself.
“I’m focused and controlled, but behind the iciness is a hot-blooded and sensitive personality. I have learned to protect myself, otherwise the world might have taken advantage of me,” the designer writes. I have surrounded myself with a sort of mystique that some may interpret as being aloof, others as a role, others still as a form of shyness. And the latter is the interpretation I like best.”
The designer also discusses the milestones in the company’s history, as well as the creative process behind his collections.
